Enhance Your Privacy

Window tinting not only enhances safety but also boosts the privacy of your interior space. When parked, tinted windows offer privacy, shielding your car's interior from onlookers and unwanted attention. While not a complete fail-safe against burglaries, our window tinting is known to be one of the most effective deterrents to this potential issue. In so many different ways, window tinting is a smart investment that not only enhances your vehicle's aesthetics but also its functionality.

How to Choose the Right Tint Shade

Tint shade is measured in visible light transmission (VLT), and PGC Wrap installs 5%, 15%, 20%, 35%, and 50% film. A 50% tint cuts glare and heat with a lighter look. A 35% tint is the darkest legal option for front side windows in Illinois and gives a sleek finish. Illinois sedans must keep 35% on the rear windows as well, while SUVs and vans can use 20%, 15%, or 5% behind the driver for more privacy for passengers and cargo. Florida's limits differ, so drivers at our Pompano Beach shop should ask our team which shades are legal there. Tell our team how and where you drive, and we will help you choose a shade.

What a Precision Tint Install Protects

Sun exposure fades and dries out interior surfaces over time. Quality film blocks harmful UV rays and cuts infrared heat, which helps slow the fading and cracking of dashboards, seats, and trim. A precision tint install also reduces glare on the road and keeps the cabin more comfortable in summer.

Tint, Paint Protection Film, Ceramic Coating, and Vinyl Wrap at PGC Wrap

PGC Wrap has served drivers since 2019 with more than window tint. XPEL paint protection film guards your paint from scratches, chips, and environmental damage, with partial, full front, and full car packages. A ceramic coating adds a slick, hydrophobic layer that makes maintenance easier, since dirt and contaminants rinse off instead of sticking to the finish. Our vinyl experts handle color change and commercial vinyl wrap projects for owners who want a new look without a repaint. You can ask about scheduling tint together with any of these services.

Window Tinting FAQs and Answers

  • Can I tint the windows on my vehicle myself?

Opting for DIY window tinting on your vehicle might seem budget-friendly, but often leads to mediocre outcomes. Without the proper tools and experience, it is easy to end up with trapped air bubbles, an improper fit, and a tint that is not as durable as the ones offered at PGC Wrap. These issues detract from the appearance and effectiveness of window tinting on your vehicle. For the best look and longevity, trust the pros!

  • Is aftermarket window tinting outlawed in Illinois?

No, window tinting is not illegal in the state of Illinois. The laws about window tinting are different from one state to another. But if you hire a professional window tinting shop like PGC Wrap, you can rest assured that we follow the rules required by the Illinois Department of Transportation. We are always using window tinting that is legal in the Chicago area and across the state of Illinois. Learn more about these rules by clicking here.

  • Does window tint film come in different shades of darkness at PGC Wrap?

The window tinting provided by PGC Wrap does come in a range of darkness levels to match your preferences and requirements for your vehicle. Whether you are looking for a subtle shade or a darker tint for increased privacy and IR rejection, there is an option to suit your dynamic needs as a vehicle owner. This variety allows you to customize the appearance of your vehicle while enjoying the benefits of tinted windows.

  • How long does car window tinting take?

Timing depends on the job. A Front 2 Window Match takes less time than a Full Vehicle Surround or a Full Windshield install. Call to book an appointment, and we will give you a time estimate for your vehicle.

  • How soon can I roll my windows down after tinting?

Give the adhesive time to cure first. A few days is the common guideline, and cold or damp weather can extend it. Slight haze or small water pockets are normal while the film dries and usually clear on their own. Ask our team for aftercare instructions for your film.

  • How do I clean tinted windows without damaging the film?

Skip ammonia-based glass cleaners and abrasive pads. A soft microfiber towel with a mild, ammonia-free cleaner removes dirt and contaminants without marking the film. One advantage of tint is low maintenance: it needs no waxing or sealing, only regular cleaning.

  • How is XPEL film different from budget tint on the market?

Lower-cost dyed films can fade and change color over time. XPEL window film is built for heat rejection, and our XPEL window tint package rejects up to 94% of infrared heat. If older tint on your car has faded or bubbled, our Window Strip service removes it before new film is installed.

  • Where can I see examples of your work?

Our gallery shows examples of our work, and our reviews page collects customer feedback. You can also follow PGC Wrap on Facebook and Instagram.

The Legalities of Window Tinting in Illinois

In the state of Illinois, window tinting rules and regulations are designed to ensure safety and compliance with specific standards regarding how dark or reflective vehicle windows can be. These laws are in place to balance the desire for privacy, IR heat rejection, and more with the need for visibility for both drivers and law enforcement officials.

The specific Visible Light Transmission (VLT) percentages allowed under Illinois law vary depending on the type of vehicle and the window being tinted. For smaller vehicles, such as sedans, a minimum VLT of 35% is allowed on all windows except the windshield. This means that the tint must allow at least 35% of the outside light to pass through into the vehicle. For SUVs and vans, the same 35% VLT applies to the front side windows, but the rear windows and rear windshield can have any level of darkness. Regarding tinting reflectiveness, Illinois regulations stipulate that the front side windows and back side windows on any vehicle must not be reflective at all.

Ensuring compliance with these tinting laws is crucial for both safety and legality. If you are considering window tinting for your vehicle and are located in or around Schaumburg, Illinois, PGC Wrap is your go-to source for professional services. We are well-versed in the state's regulations and can help you achieve the perfect balance between style and compliance.
